Storyline

Growing up in a remote farm village, Ulimma’s life pivots when a moment of distraction causes her to shatter her mother’s only clay pot, prompting the tearful decision to send her to the city in World Apart. Relocated to the household of her uncle, she becomes a house help, where each day she is transfixed by the motorcade of the royal family and takes to waving at the prince’s car. Annoyed at first, Prince Promise confronts the girl but is quickly charmed by her unaffected warmth, leading to secret visits that ignite a bond neither his status nor her poverty can deter. Defying all convention, Promise brings Ulimma—whom he calls Uli—to the airport to welcome his parents, the king and queen, back from Australia, but the reunion sours when Queen Mirabel glimpses the village girl. Outraged by her presence, the queen banishes Uli to the servants’ quarters and later storms to her employers’ home, thrusting 150,000 naira at them with a chilling command: send Uli back to her village and tell everyone she died. Bound by fear and greed, the household packs the girl onto a bus and then stages the grief of her sudden illness, presenting the lie to the guard and eventually to a shattered Promise, who collapses as the news of Uli’s fabricated death reaches him. Away in the city, Promise mourns a loss that has no body, searching for meaning in a grave that holds only deception, while far from the kingdom’s reach, Ulimma finds herself exiled to the same village she left, the silence of the countryside now a prison of distance. The queen’s scheme succeeds in preserving royal decorum, but it ensures a fracture no title or fortune can mend, as the prince’s heart remains entangled with a ghost he cannot find.
