EARLY LIFE
Iniobong Edo Ekim, known professionally as Ini Edo, was born on April 23, 1982, in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, to an Ibibio family. Her mother was a school teacher, and her father was a church elder, raising her in a strict household as the second of four children three girls and one boy. She attended Cornelia Connelly College in Uyo for her secondary education and later earned a Diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Uyo. She completed a bachelor's degree in English at the University of Calabar and, in 2014, received a scholarship to study law at the National Open University of Nigeria.
PERSONAL LIFE
Ini Edo married American-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, with ceremonies in Nigeria and Houston, Texas; the marriage ended in divorce in September 2014 due to irreconcilable differences. She welcomed a daughter via surrogacy in 2021, following several miscarriages that she has publicly discussed. CAREER
Ini Edo began her acting career in 2000, debuting in the film Thick Madam after being spotted at an audition. Her breakthrough came in 2004 with World Apart, and she has since starred in over 200 movies, showcasing versatility in roles. Notable films include While You Slept (2015), Weekend Getaway (2012), Citation (2020), Shanty Town (2023, Netflix series which she also produced), Inale (2010), Desperate Housegirls (2015), The Man for the Job (2022), The Ghost and the Tout Too (2021), Chief Daddy (2018), and Heaven on My Mind (2018). Beyond acting, she launched the luxury fashion and cosmetics brand Secrets of April in 2021.
