In A Little Off Plan, creative director Moladelori 'Mo' Mafoluku marks her thirty-seventh birthday at her home with gifts from her boyfriend Samid and an expectant hope for a proposal. Christabel encourages this hope after spotting an engagement ring on Samid's computer and rehearsing Mo's surprise reaction. The mood shatters when Samid arrives to announce a flight and, pressed by Mo, coldly declares he will not marry her, does not see her in his life in that fashion, and cruelly questions whether she can still have children at her age. Mo erupts and orders him out of her house, leaving her devastated by the sudden end of a relationship she believed was headed toward marriage. Her friend Christabel and her mother pressure her to win Samid back, citing his status and eligibility, yet Mo instead visits a fertility clinic where Dr. Bami confirms her ovarian reserve is reassuring and proposes intrauterine insemination with donor sperm. A male colleague declines the request because of his fiancée, so Mo recruits Bulie, a boisterous loader from Iyare Motors, who moves into her house for a clinical arrangement that quickly fractures as his crude habits, constant presence, and refusal to treat the process as purely transactional spark relentless friction. Later, Mo's friends — Christabel, her mother, and Dr. Bami — stage an intervention questioning her decision to pursue single motherhood with a donor they deem unsuitable, and Mo, now visibly pregnant, asserts her autonomy but is shaken when news breaks that Samid has become engaged to a model and that the relationship is allegedly abusive. Bulie and Mo erupt in an explosive kitchen confrontation where he declares he is leaving, she retorts 'you fuck up,' and he walks out. Seven months later, heavily pregnant Mo is visited by Christabel, who challenges Mo's denial of her feelings for Bulie and points out his excitement about fatherhood and his genuine help with her luggage-app idea.
