The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi Wives

The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives tells the story of Baba Segi, a rich but illiterate man in Ibadan, Nigeria. He lives proudly with his three wives and seven children. One day, he brings home a new wife named Bolanle. She is young, smart, and very different from the others. The three older wives — Iya Segi, Iya Tope, and Iya Femi — do not like her. They are jealous and plan to push her out of the house. Bolanle finds it hard to get pregnant. Baba Segi gets angry and takes her to the hospital. There, they discover a big shock: Baba Segi cannot have children. None of the seven children in the house belong to him. Each wife had secretly slept with other men to get pregnant so they could stay in the comfortable marriage. The wives had painful secrets from their past, including rape and hardship. When the truth starts coming out, the wives become desperate. They try to poison Bolanle’s food, but their own daughter Segi eats it by mistake and dies.
