Children of Blood and Bone film is a live-action adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s popular 2018 young adult novel. The story is deeply rooted in Yoruba mythology and features different clans of magic users called maji, each drawing unique powers from specific deities. The plot becomes an exciting fantasy road trip when Zélie and her older brother Tzain meet Princess Amari, who has run away after stealing a sacred scroll that can restore the world’s lost magic. Together, they must complete a ritual to bring back the gods before it is too late, all while being chased by Crown Prince Inan.

Storyline

Set in the mythical, West African-inspired kingdom of Orïsha, the story follows Zélie Adebola, a young woman who remembers a time when the land hummed with magic. Everything changed the night magic vanished, and the ruthless, anti-magic King Saran ordered the brutal massacre of the maji (the magic practitioners), including Zélie’s mother. Left without her mother or hope, Zélie gets a final, dangerous chance to bring magic back and strike a blow against the monarchy.
