Despite furious resistance from the displaced Queen Mother and Prince Adeosun, the council’s bought allegiance crowns Babajide in a ceremony that masks illegitimacy with spectacle. His inaugural speech, promising a school and a hospital, momentarily placates the villagers, yet the palace corridors hum with resentment.
