Somachi Chilaka

EARLY LIFE

Mmesomachi Chilaka hails from Imo State in South-East Nigeria and is of Igbo ethnic origin. She was raised in a family that emphasized cultural values, respect, tradition, diligence, and community. Her upbringing instilled a strong sense of family cohesion and personal integrity, which later influenced her artistic work.She developed an early passion for dance and performance arts, training for several years. This background in dance provided her with physical control, stage presence, and confidence that became assets when she transitioned into modeling, pageantry, and acting. She has spoken of drawing on her Igbo family and cultural roots to inform her performances, particularly those involving intergenerational family dynamics.

CAREER

Somachi’s public career began in beauty pageantry. She won the title of Miss Afroglam Nigeria Queen. During her reign, she was noted for grace, community service, and using the platform to support charity initiatives, particularly those empowering young women and encouraging youth toward creative careers.She later transitioned into acting. Her breakthrough (and first major screen role) came as the lead in the 2026 independent feature film Adanne, produced by Melon House Productions. Written by Gold Gerry and directed by Orobosa Ikponmwen (her feature directorial debut), the film was shot on location in Ibadan. It is a bilingual (English and Igbo) family drama exploring three generations of Igbo women, legacy, silence, expectations, mother-daughter relationships, and the tension between tradition and personal ambition.Somachi plays the titular character Adanne, a creative young woman navigating rigid family norms. She stars alongside Onyinye Odokoro, Kelvinmary Ndukwe, and Jennifer Umenwa. The film has been selected for an international festival run in late 2026. Industry coverage has highlighted her performance as a significant debut that showcases both emotional depth and cultural authenticity.She continues to pursue acting opportunities and presents herself professionally to casting directors as a versatile performer with dance training and multilingual skills.

Beyond acting and pageantry, Somachi is active in youth advocacy, women’s empowerment, education, creative arts, and cultural awareness initiatives. She uses her platform (including Instagram) to share film updates, dance content, cultural messaging, and positive messaging for aspiring creatives. She balances glamour photography rooted in African aesthetics with more naturalistic, dramatic imagery from her film work.
