A Tray Of Locust Beans

The movie centers on Mabel, a young girl forced to grow up in a tough environment where systems meant to shield her have utterly failed, and where keeping quiet is often the safest choice. Forced to hawk iru (locust beans) around Lagos to support herself and her grandmother, Mabel becomes the target of influential local men who believe their societal power places them completely above the law. Rather than submitting to fear, Mabel brilliantly transforms her silence into an active strategy. The literal tray of locust beans she carries on her head changes from a symbol of poverty and labor into a critical vehicle for gathering concrete evidence, delivering a gripping cinematic tribute to female resilience and survival.
