Waiting For My Sister

The story sets up a stark contrast between the sensory overload of everyday survival and existential grief. It opens with a teenage boy moving stealthily through a crowded, shouting market, relying on his wits to get by. When a petty theft goes awry, he is forced to run from an angry mob, eventually escaping to a secluded, serene riverbank. There, he encounters a calm and gentle young girl sitting by the water, softly singing in Igbo. She claims she is waiting for her big sister, Ada, and their friend to return from seeking help after an incident in the water. As the two outcasts converse, the tone shifts from casual curiosity to psychological mystery. The girl's reality feels increasingly displaced, raising haunting questions about trauma, what they are running from, and whether her sister is ever truly coming back.
