The film opens with the lavish wedding of Tobi Adekunle and Shola, their vows appearing beside the title To Freedom. Five years later the couple marks their anniversary in expensive surroundings. Tobi, a wealthy fintech CEO, gives Shola costly gifts. His friend and business partner Kevwe talks about his own love life. The calm breaks when Shola goes to the supermarket alone and disappears. Tobi searches using security, investigators, and police but finds no ransom note, no body, and no leads. A year passes and Tobi grows a thick beard as his obsession deepens. He shouts at his investigators, threatens a bank manager for Shola's records, and almost fights Kevwe when Kevwe urges closure and a memorial service. Tobi goes to Shola's parents' house to demand their daughter. They say she is gone and beg him to get therapy. In therapy Tobi explains that not knowing if Shola is alive stops him from moving on. Flashbacks reveal Tobi abused Shola, and when her father tried to have him arrested Tobi used his power to jail the father instead. Shola has been hiding with help from Kevwe, her parents, and a doctor cousin, carrying out a careful escape plan. Tobi catches a glimpse of a recent photo of Shola on a friend's phone and confirms she is alive. His confrontation at a restaurant turns violent. His mental state worsens and medication leaves him docile, so he is confined to a medical facility. With Tobi incapacitated Kevwe manipulates him into signing an irrevocable power of attorney and divorce papers. Shola enters his room no longer the terrified wife but a woman reclaiming her agency. She thanks him coldly and declares he does not own her. She delivers a final blow: Enjoy your new home, Tobi Adekunle. Tobi, barely conscious, rasps a threat to find her and make her pay, but Shola summons the nurse and leaves him restrained and defeated. In a quiet living room Shola, Kevwe, and the doctor cousin clink wine glasses in a toast to freedom.
