Storyline
Ebi-Ere carries the scar of losing her parents in a car crash, a wound that festers into a hardened refusal of faith even as she builds a successful boutique. When Douye, a marine biologist, strides in needing an express wedding outfit, his warmth and persistence chip at her defenses, coaxing her to visit his hometown of Okoloba. With her friend Shade by her side, she reconnects with her grandmother Mama Owei but bristles at the village’s spiritual customs, especially the reverence for the river. Douye’s family, seeing a future bride, piles on pressure for marriage, yet Ebi-Ere’s heart, though drawn to Douye, remains entangled in old pain. During the festival, their romance deepens, but a taboo broken—her presence by the river while menstruating—triggers a sudden, violent sickness that baffles all, a crisis that forms the beating heart of Stitches. As the village priestess declares the river goddess’s wrath and a three-day death sentence, Douye refuses to surrender, turning instead to desperate prayer. Ebi-Ere, slipping into a vision, finds herself on a dark road facing a figure who reveals Himself as God, recounting a lifetime of unnoticed presence and offering her a choice. She chooses life—and awakens healed, an outcome that stuns the community and validates Douye’s faith. This pivotal miracle reshapes everything, drawing Ebi-Ere toward a fragile new openness to the divine she once scorned.
