Storyline
In Before Forever Tobi and Somto attend a final premarital counseling session five months before their wedding. Tobi presses Somto to move in together to save money but she refuses, insisting she will not cohabit before marriage. Mama Tobi tells her friend Folake that Somto’s career and domestic habits make her a poor fit. Somto juggles a demanding promotion bid and intense daily wedding planning stress. Mama Tobi arrives unannounced, criticizes Somto’s cooking and housekeeping, and Nkiru appears to defend her sister. The two women clash violently in the kitchen, slapping each other over cultural expectations, and Tobi watches without intervening. Overwhelmed, Somto decides to leave after a raw confrontation where both admit destructive patterns. Somto’s instinct to flee stems from Nkiru’s past marital trauma and Tobi’s avoidance of conflict with his mother. Later Tobi confronts his mother, declaring that he chooses Somto and demanding she respect their boundaries or leave. Mama Tobi breaks down and apologizes, acknowledging her overreach and the pain she caused. Somto loses the promotion she had pursued, and she resigns from her corporate role to launch her own training venture called The Growth Room focused on mentorship. The couple meets with their pastor, where they honestly address Tobi’s silence and Somto’s emotional walls, agreeing to rebuild their relationship with clear boundaries and mutual accountability. The pastor approves the counseling report and clears their wedding date for the church. Finally Tobi and Somto meet in the church parking lot and seal their reconciliation with a kiss. They playfully negotiate boundaries and difficult conversations, and their mothers and Nkiru watch with warmth. The group walks together toward the pastor’s tent, the earlier hostility replaced by tentative unity, as the couple prepares to move forward into marriage on their own terms.
