In Ashes Of Us, Jeff runs Silvercrest Properties and lives under constant pressure from his mother to marry. His personal assistant Elma works efficiently beside him while her husband Michael loses his job. Desperate to fund their relocation abroad, Michael pressures Elma to steal five hundred million naira from the company accounts. Elma feels torn between loyalty to her husband and her own integrity, and she confesses the plot to Jeff instead of executing it. Jeff is impressed by her honesty and forgives her, declining to press charges, but the incident fractures Elma's marriage. Michael serves Elma divorce papers, and with nowhere else to go she moves into Jeff's home. Jeff's mother opposes the arrangement fiercely, viewing Elma as another man's wife and a source of bad energy. Jeff admits to his mother that he has fallen in love with Elma and intends to marry her once the divorce is finalized. The tension escalates until Elma, unable to bear being the cause of conflict between mother and son, attempts to leave. Jeff stops her and pleads for her to stay, trusting he can handle his mother. Michael arrives at Jeff's house demanding his wife back, leading to a volatile confrontation. The divorce is finalized shortly after, leaving Michael devastated and spiraling into alcoholism while his friend Dennis tries to support him. Jeff's mother learns of Elma's tragic past as an orphan who lost both parents and was lifted from the streets by Michael, and she softens her stance and accepts Elma. Jeff proposes to Elma in a tender kitchen moment, asking her to be his girlfriend, and she accepts joyfully. Meanwhile Dennis gives Michael money to start over and urges him to move on.
