Vera and Chioma share a cramped room in Lagos and a temperamental minibus that Vera drives while Chioma collects fares. One night they stumble upon a briefcase stuffed with dollars and property documents and argue through the night over whether to keep the windfall or return it. Across the city a visiting married woman named Eva rejects a public marriage proposal from her lover Benson and announces she is leaving for Canada the next morning. Vera and Chioma choose to find the briefcase's owner, a decision that takes Vera to a mechanic's yard where she meets Melvin, a charismatic stranger intrigued by her profession. Their bus breaks down repeatedly and they beg their landlord and bus owner Baba Ibeji for repair money he promises only at month's end. Melvin begins courting Vera and soon charms Chioma as well, juggling both women while his friend warns him against toying with their hearts. A drunken celebration ends with Vera chased by thugs through an uncompleted building and saved only by Chioma and a group of Good Samaritans. The trauma deepens the rift between the friends, especially when they realize they are both dating Melvin, culminating in a vicious physical brawl in their bedroom. The confrontation moves to a restaurant where both women confront Melvin simultaneously and he attempts to placate each with lies but Chioma exposes his deception about cooking a meal she actually prepared. Forced to confess, Melvin admits he manipulated them both while the briefcase's owner, an elderly patriarch, tracks them down to express gratitude for their honesty, revealing the cache was worth five hundred thousand dollars. He rewards them with a duplex, twenty million naira each, and job connections, instantly transforming their fortunes. Flush with cash, Vera and Chioma purchase sleek cars and return Baba Ibeji's refurbished bus with a two point five-million-naira transfer, settling their debts.
