In Hot Soup

Nnamdi and Colette are a young Lagos couple who run a small shop. In Hot Soup, they dream about billions and complain that rich people ignore poor people like them. One morning they find an abandoned bag near an open window and open it to see cash. They take it as an answer to their prayers and celebrate with takeaway food and champagne. An armed man corners them and says the money belongs to his people. They must return it by the next day, but they have already spent millions. He forces them to do a job instead and gives them the address of an estate and a master key, ordering them to deal with whoever is inside or be shot. Terrified, they watch action films and rehearse with wooden clubs and baseball bats, and Colette keeps saying that her mind is cutting. At night they enter the estate and creep into the mansion. No one is home, so they wait. Hunger and exhaustion drive them to cook jollof rice and meat and drink juice and wine. They start treating the house as their own and talk about raising a family there. Hearing movement, they hide with their clubs. An armed intruder and a man in white appear. The man in white recognizes them and says they stole his money. Nnamdi and Colette kneel and beg, insisting they came only because they were following orders. The confrontation moves outside to the driveway, and the armed man takes charge. Nnamdi pleads for his life and says God is watching, and Colette cries out that their prayers have been answered. Shots are fired, and the armed intruder is left wounded on the ground. The shaken couple are in the garage, where the man asks what they think they are doing and Colette says she simply wants to leave the house.
