Broken

In Broken, Anita is an apprentice at an auto-repair workshop in Lagos. Her hard work earns only a small wage, and she is furious. In her room she finds a note from her late mother with an old photograph and an address. The note says her father is alive and rich. Anita forces her way past the security guard and bursts into Chief Dike's dinner, declaring she is his daughter. Chief Dike agrees to a DNA test and lets her stay. His wife Freda and son Melvin turn against her. Melvin calls Anita the street girl who made him take responsibility after his car hit a woman. Anita's behavior makes family life worse. She fights Melvin over loud music, knocks down his girlfriend Stella, takes his car, and goes to Chief Dike's office for a share of the property. She steals company papers and asks her street associate Sikiru to find a buyer for one of Chief Dike's businesses. The buyer is Chief Dike's friend, so Chief Dike confronts her. He denounces her attempt to sell a company worth billions for twenty million naira, blames her late mother's upbringing, and decides to move Anita to another apartment. Before the move can happen, armed men ambush Melvin and try to drag him away. Anita sees the attack, grabs a wooden pole, and rushes to rescue him. She is struck down, but Melvin escapes. Anita returns to the family with a bandaged head. She says she saw the men rough-handling Melvin and fought them because she could not stand by and watch. She apologizes to everyone, especially Freda, for her disrespect and crude behavior, and asks Melvin to let them live as one family. Freda is softened by the rescue of her son, forgives Anita, and tells her the home is hers. Melvin performs a gospel rap he has written, and Chief Dike promises to support the music career financially and morally. The family gathers around Melvin in celebration as the film ends with applause and credits.
