Storyline
In Street Husband, Tochukwu and Chinanu are a married couple living in a village with Tochukwu's younger brother Somadina. They struggle with infertility, and a doctor advises that both partners need testing though Tochukwu initially resists. Tochukwu suffers a devastating financial loss when his imported goods are lost at sea, and this forces him to borrow heavily from a ruthless creditor Chief Ajoka who eventually locks his shop. As Tochukwu spirals into debt and depression, Chinanu supports the household on her teacher's salary and begins a hair-extension business with the encouragement and financial backing of her friend Nneoma. Tochukwu's wounded pride drives him to alcohol and increasing hostility, and he becomes verbally abusive and physically violent, hitting Chinanu when meals are not ready. Somadina fuels Tochukwu's resentment, urging him to assert dominance and reject Chinanu's growing independence. When Chinanu secures a life-changing buying trip to China with Nneoma's help, Tochukwu forbids her from going and burns her passport before enlisting Somadina to physically restrain and lock her in a room. A relative alerts the police, who raid the house and arrest Tochukwu for kidnapping and attempted murder. In the hospital, a battered Chinanu confronts Tochukwu, who offers a tearful and detailed apology admitting he allowed bitterness and envy to consume him. He promises to stop drinking, end his toxic friendships, and support her business. Chinanu reveals that her family has agreed to return his dowry, effectively ending the marriage. She recounts years of endured humiliation including infertility shaming, blocked opportunities, starvation, and isolation, and she refuses his touch while making clear that forgiveness does not equal reconciliation. Two years later, Chinanu has become a thriving entrepreneur known as the hair boss queen running her business remotely.
