Storyline
In Her Hands opens with Eugene ruling his house with scripture and silence, belittling Love for onions in his eggs and demanding breakfast before church. At service they kneel side by side while Love whispers pleas for peace. Their son Ayinla absorbs the tension. Eugene's friends praise Love's submission at a gathering, reinforcing his conviction that a wife exists to serve. Love tells her friend Amaka she endures the daily terror for Ayinla, fearing the stigma that left her own mother exposed as a single woman. Everything changes when Eugene rapes Love drunk. She presses a pillow to his face, then locks him out into the night. He breaks back in and the struggle lands him in hospital. Love tells him plainly that another touch will cost him his life. Eugene responds by bringing Ada into the house as his new wife, and Love attacks them both with a weapon. A family intervention collapses when Eugene can cite only Love's defiance, not adultery or abandonment. At a bar Eugene tells friends Love beats him, a humiliation that unmans him, while Love tells Amaka her violence is a calculated strategy to force advantage. The climax comes in a nocturnal bedroom confrontation where Eugene admits he is afraid of Love and no longer knows himself. Love admits she is afraid of him and wants out, and they argue over Ayinla's aggression with each blaming the other's modeling. Eugene cradles a pillow like a child and weeps, saying they need help and recounting a premonition that mutual destruction is inevitable unless they change. Love challenges the moment but Eugene insists it is real, apologizing for his unkindness and asking Love to guide his transformation. In the resolution Eugene wakes at four a.m. to ready Ayinla for school and takes up household chores. He endures Love's harsh training without retaliation. A final bedroom scene shows them sitting quietly, both naming the marriage a prison they want to escape yet choosing to stay and rebuild.
