In 'Trending Lies', social media influencer Ibufubara 'Fubara' Preye, known as SashaRose, finds love with US-based data analyst Kio, but their whirlwind romance is met with fierce opposition from his mother, Mrs. Sekara, who distrusts her online persona. After a civil wedding, Kio returns to America, leaving Fubara to discover her pregnancy, a joy that immediately sours when Mrs. Sekara accuses her of carrying another man’s child, and Kio, swayed by his mother’s suspicions, asks point-blank if he is the father, driving a bitter rift between the newlyweds. Pressured to prove her fidelity, Fubara agrees to a DNA test, enduring a pregnancy without Kio’s support while her aunt and his father, Mr. Sekara, provide comfort. After the baby’s birth, a sample taken from Mr. Sekara yields an explosive result: there is no biological match, leading Mrs. Sekara to celebrate and declare Fubara a liar who trapped her son. Kio, however, rejects the faulty test and demands a new one using his own DNA, flying to Nigeria where he uncovers a deeper truth—the mismatch means Mr. Sekara cannot be his biological father, forcing his mother to confess that a past affair likely made another man his real parent. Shattered by the revelation but resolute, Kio tracks down Fubara and delivers a raw apology, admitting he let his mother’s words poison his judgment, and pledging never to doubt her again. Fubara, after seeing his sincerity, forgives him, and together they hold their son, embracing a second chance. With the cloud of deception finally lifted, Kio steps into fatherhood while Mrs. Sekara wrestles with the wreckage of her own lies, and the young family begins to heal from the damage caused by suspicion and betrayal.
