To Be Loved

Ashley's resistance to charity, a central thread in 'To Be Loved', begins to fray as Kevin's acts of kindness accumulate. A single mother and Uber driver, she meets Kevin after he helps fix her stalled car, not realizing he is Selina's new teacher. When he offers free tutoring, pride makes her decline until Selina's educational needs force her to accept. Kevin secretly pays for car repairs, and Ashley's angry discovery gives way to a date where he explains his inherited wealth and passion for teaching, softening the barriers she has built. Her friend Amanda's offer of a loan further complicates Ashley's determination to rely on no one. The fragile peace shatters when Selina's father George resurfaces, seeking a second chance. Ashley's conflicted emotions sharpen after a crash destroys her car, leaving her without the means to earn a living. When George proposes moving the family to Port Harcourt, Ashley, desperate and exhausted, tells Kevin she is considering it. Hiding his devastation, he tells her it might be best for Selina, but Joshua's insistence pushes him to finally confess his feelings and take a gamble. He surprises Ashley with a new car, festooned with balloons and a sign reading 'Please Marry Me.' Kneeling, he asks to be her partner and a father to Selina, to build a future together. Ashley accepts through tears, and Selina, watching from the doorway, cheers as the three embrace.
