Saintly Affections

Felix wakes before dawn for prayer and takes a distressing call, then drives with his fiancée Alice and returns to find his sister Jenny and her friend Kamsi dancing to secular music. He erupts in a religious frenzy, brands the music demonic, expels Kamsi from his sanctuary, and berates Jenny for such behavior before his Bible. He enforces compulsory morning devotion despite Jenny's exhaustion and reveals his recent breakup with Alice. He unilaterally installs Nathan, a childhood friend and pastor's son posted to Abuja for youth service, as a housemate. Nathan arrives in his NYSC uniform and forms an easy rapport with Jenny over breakfast, irritating Felix. When Jenny mentions joining tutorials with Kamsi, Felix forbids her from associating with unbelievers and quotes Second Corinthians six fourteen, and Jenny counters with Matthew seven one. Nathan, an accounting graduate, tutors Jenny in Public Sector Accounting and their intellectual partnership blossoms into mutual affection. Felix discovers them in a moment of intimacy, accuses them of sexual immorality despite their protests that only a hug occurred, and gives Nathan two weeks to leave. Meanwhile Felix and Alice celebrate his promotion with wine, become tipsy, and sleep together. The next morning he blames her, calling their intimacy a sin and a crime. Alice reveals she is four months pregnant, driving Felix into guilt and desperate prayer. Jenny confronts his hypocrisy, noting he condemned her and Nathan for a hug despite having impregnated Alice during a broken engagement, and announces she is leaving for her unsafe hostel. Felix kneels in prolonged penitential prayer, acknowledging his prodigal ways and begging God to redirect him. Felix apologizes to Alice, who has already forgiven him, and they reconcile to marry and raise the child. He summons Nathan and Jenny, delivers a tearful apology admitting he projected his unforgiveness onto them.
