Storyline
Long ago in Nigeria, around 1810, a girl named Efunroye is born in the forest near Abeokuta. Her mom and grandma teach her how to sell things like leaves and roots. She marries a man, has two boys, but he dies soon. Alone, she sells more to care for her kids. Then she meets Prince Adele, who was king of Lagos but sent away. They marry in 1833 and go to Badagry. There, Efunroye starts big trade with white men from Europe. She sells slaves for salt, tobacco, and guns. This makes her rich and strong. When Adele becomes king again in 1835, they move to Lagos. Efunroye helps him rule. But Adele dies in 1837. She marries another man, Yesufu, and keeps growing her business. Now she trades slaves a lot, owns many, and sells arms too. Lagos has fights between kings like Akintoye and Kosoko. Efunroye picks Akintoye and uses her money and guns to help him win in 1845. She becomes a big boss in politics, like a kingmaker. But British people come and stop slave trade in 1852. They see Efunroye as trouble because she fights back to keep her trade. She hates how they take over Lagos. In 1855, she leads a big argument against the British boss. They force her out of Lagos in 1856, back to Abeokuta. There, she changes to sell palm oil and cotton instead of slaves. She still has power and in 1864, gets the title Iyalode, top woman leader in Egba land. Efunroye The Unicorn follows her whole life: from poor trader to rich merchant who owns slaves and fights kings. She resists British rule hard, even when they win. She dies in 1887 in Abeokuta, leaving a name for being tough and smart. But some say she hurt people with slave trade. The movie shows her wins and bad sides, with stars like Faithia Williams as Efunroye.
