Cairo Station

Set entirely over the course of a single, sweltering day inside Cairo's bustling central train hub (Ramses Station), the story revolves around Qinawi, a vulnerable, physically challenged unhoused man who makes a meager living hawking newspapers. He develops a consuming, dangerous obsession with Hanuma, a beautiful, fiercely independent woman who illegally sells soft drinks to passengers. While Hanuma plays along with his advances out of playful pity, she is deeply in love with Abu Siri, a strong, widely respected luggage porter who is actively trying to unionize the station workers against exploitation. Driven mad by intense sexual repression, continuous societal mockery, and ultimate rejection, Qinawi’s mind fractures, leading him to plot a gruesome act of violence just as an unrelated serial killer's spree terrorizes the city.
