Storyline
Lara, a busy executive and mother to young Mira, struggles with the demands of her career until she hires Claire as live-in help. The Strange Woman immediately slots into the family, bonding with Mira and managing the household, while Lara’s husband Michael appreciates the respite. Yet Claire’s imitation of Lara’s style and makeup, along with a growing closeness to Michael, disturbs Lara profoundly. When confronted, Claire claims admiration, but her manipulations only deepen—she lies to Michael, claiming Lara called him a disappointment, and intercepts school pickups to appear indispensable. Michael dismisses Lara’s fears as jealousy, leaving her isolated until, with a friend’s urging, she catches Claire wearing her clothes and makeup. A furious confrontation ends with Lara firing Claire on the spot. The crisis deepens when, after being fired, Claire abducts Mira from school without consent. Lara and Michael discover their daughter is missing and learn that Claire had been impersonating Lara to school staff. A doctor reveals Claire’s history of severe emotional dysregulation and her delusional belief that she is Mira’s true mother. With time running out, a neighbor reports hearing a child’s cries, leading police to a rundown house where they surround the property and begin a tense countdown. As the police count down, Claire emerges holding Mira, still claiming the child as her own. Mira breaks free and runs into Michael’s arms, and the authorities swiftly arrest Claire. The family embraces, shattered but safe, having narrowly escaped a dangerous delusion. Claire is taken into custody, her psychological condition now in the hands of professionals.
