Seeing no way back, Anita packs while Jacob lies passed out on the couch and flees their home in Wuse II. She answers a newspaper ad and becomes a caregiver for Wilson, a paralyzed man in a large Abuja house. He torments her daily, spitting water in her face, throwing food trays, and shouting that he will torture her until her spirit breaks. Anita refuses to leave, telling him she will stay and care for him. Wilson's mother arrives and, grateful for Anita's patience, pleads with her to remain. Jacob tracks down Anita's friend Joy and threatens on the phone to kill her if Anita does not surrender, so Anita warns Joy to run. Anita's resilience gradually earns Wilson's trust, and he confesses that his jealous brother sabotaged his car tires and left him paralyzed. She comforts him and offers a distinction between jealousy and envy, and the two grow close. Anita leaves to finalize her divorce, but when she returns, Wilson's mother confronts her, certain Anita will break Wilson's heart, and offers three months' severance.
