The Guest

Grace Akwuzie Odemba prepares her home for her birthday, and the arrival of her children brings both joy and tension. Among them, 'The Guest' of the story, Chioma, surprises everyone by showing up after claiming to be abroad. Desmond arrives with his girlfriend Cynthia and her daughter Purity, while Oriu brings her fiancé Dennis, and Chinedu arrives with his fiancée Mildred. Undercurrents of discomfort surface, especially between Chioma and Mildred and between Cynthia and Chinedu. During the brunch, Desmond announces his engagement to Cynthia, prompting Chioma to mock Cynthia for having a child out of wedlock. In retaliation, Cynthia reveals that Chioma is pregnant with Grace's widower father's child, stunning the entire family. Later, Desmond confronts Cynthia about her past with Chinedu, and she admits that Chinedu is Purity's biological father, devastating Desmond. Meanwhile, Oriu's fiancé Dennis is exposed as someone paid by Cynthia to pretend to be her boyfriend; he is actually the partner of Cynthia's best friend. The family erupts in accusations and emotional outbursts. Chinedu confesses he never stopped loving Cynthia, leading Mildred to leave him. Grace tries to mediate, speaking to each child individually. She reminds her sons of their promise to their late father to never let anything come between them. Chinedu apologizes and offers to step aside for Desmond's happiness, but Desmond remains conflicted. In a moment of clarity, Cynthia declares that she loves Desmond and wants to be with him despite everything. Desmond forgives her, and the brothers reconcile. Chioma calls the father of her baby, an older man named Damian, who arrives at the party and is welcomed by the family. The family comes together, forgiving past mistakes and celebrating Grace's birthday. They embrace and celebrate, having overcome their conflicts.
