Teacher Dorcas

Dorcas is transferred to Rima High School, notorious for its disruptive SS3 students, despite her protests. On her first day she meets student Smart, bets him that if she stays a week he will serve the class, otherwise she will pay his WAEC. She also meets Tayo, a charming teacher who pursues her. Students fail assignments and lace a cake to humiliate her, but on her father's advice she hides her anger and handles the incident with grace, and gradually earns respect. When Victory reveals she is pregnant, Dorcas forces Ifiok to own up and lectures the class on safe sex. Her relationship with Tayo deepens. He gives her a necklace and cooks for her, and they begin a brief romance. Colleague Amina, who believes Tayo is hers, confronts Dorcas with a pregnancy test that implies Tayo is the father, so Dorcas confronts Tayo and he denies it. Dorcas then learns she is pregnant, and her father is furious but agrees to help. To motivate her students, she convinces the principal to allow her class to enter the Margaret Isong Quiz and Debate Competition and focuses on brilliant student Kaima. On competition day, Rima High faces Happy Boys and Girls School. Kaima speaks against the motion that men are better leaders than women, and the quiz team answers correctly. Happy Boys wins first place, but Rima earns second, a major achievement. The school assembly praises Dorcas for her dedication, and now visibly pregnant, she finds peace as her students have grown and the class is respectable. The bet with Smart is settled because she stayed, and she watches a quiet game of chess in the school compound as the credits roll.
