A Cheap Wife Wanted

Anthony lives in a mansion but buys his meals from street vendors, claiming he never pays restaurant prices. In A Cheap Wife Wanted, his sister Rita presses him to marry, and he asks her to find a woman who will not drain his accounts. Rita brings Sandra, a hair business owner, to meet him. Anthony pursues her with an invented French drink he calls Red Soleil, which is really local zobo, and proposes within weeks. Sandra accepts, but the engagement fractures over money when she asks for a designer wedding dress and a luxury wig and Anthony insists on a private ceremony with no frills. She presents a bill for two point five million naira covering fuel, generator diesel and groceries, and he refuses to pay, calling her a fraudster. They come to blows. She leaves with his car, and he accuses her of stealing one million naira. Anthony calls Rita for help, then announces he has found a woman who is intelligent, kind and uninterested in money. He meets Inkem, who is awestruck by his mansion, and proposes within days. They marry quickly, but the honeymoon ends as Inkem expects a lavish lifestyle, a ten-thousand-dollar Vera Wang gown and reimbursement for household spending. Anthony hides cash in furniture and gives her an iPhone 7 for her birthday. Inkem discovers Anthony's hidden cash stash in a storage ottoman and takes the money to buy a new car, a wig and clothes, announcing she has used their future money. Anthony suffers a near breakdown, clutching his chest in distress, and Rita arrives with another sister to intervene. A heated family confrontation exposes Anthony's poverty trauma as the root of his stinginess and Inkem's resentment at living like a beggar in a mansion. Anthony admits his fear of returning to poverty has almost cost him his marriage, and Inkem acknowledges she spent his investment money recklessly. In a quiet bedroom reconciliation Anthony vows to seek help, change his ways and be a better husband, begging Nkem not to leave.
