Stuck In Lies

Nelly is suspended from her hair salon job, and her best friend Sharon, a maid for Mrs. Johnson, asks her to fill in as the maid while Sharon cares for her sick mother. In Stuck In Lies, Nelly moves into the Johnson estate and starts working. Charlie, Mrs. Johnson's son, comes home without his girlfriend Zoe, who broke up with him at a bar because she needed space. Mrs. Johnson is disappointed that he is alone, and Nelly becomes smitten and tries to catch his attention. Once Mrs. Johnson leaves for London to visit her sister, Nelly and Charlie are left alone. Nelly learns Charlie is kind to struggling single mothers because his mother raised him alone after his father died. She lies and says she is four months pregnant from a rape and has no support. Charlie believes her and promises to support her and the baby, giving her money and shielding her from chores. They spend time dancing, playing cards, and going on dates, and Charlie confesses he has fallen in love. Nelly is tormented by guilt and the fear of being found out. Sharon calls and learns the truth, then warns Nelly to confess or face exposure. Mrs. Johnson returns home unexpectedly with Sharon, and Sharon announces that Nelly faked the pregnancy to gain Charlie's sympathy. Charlie is devastated by the realization that the relationship was built on a lie. Mrs. Johnson furiously orders Nelly to pack and leave, and Nelly's tearful apology is ignored as she is thrown out. Nelly goes back to the salon where she had proudly resigned weeks earlier, begs her manager to take her back, and admits the rich boyfriend story was false. The manager rebukes her but agrees to rehire Nelly with stern conditions. Charlie reflects on his feelings and his mother's advice to follow his heart, realizes he still loves Nelly, and goes to the salon to apologize. He tells her how much he misses their times together. Nelly confesses she missed him too, and they embrace, reconcile, and walk away together.
