Vanessa is a con artist who pulls a trick in a jewelry store by claiming a necklace the male customer Adeola purchased is hers, then kisses him so the shop assistant lets her leave with it while he pays for both items. Adeola later discovers the scam and tracks her down with the police, and instead of pressing charges he gives her a choice: face prison or help him by pretending to be his girlfriend while his mother visits. Vanessa accepts the deal, agreeing to work off her debt and stay in his home. She charms Adeola's mother, who believes the young woman is perfect for her son, and she meets Adeola's business circle, including his ex-girlfriend Cassandra, who immediately distrusts her. Vanessa's old accomplice Henry resurfaces, expecting her to pull more jobs, but she distances herself. When she sells a gold chain to Adeola's mother without his approval, he warns her not to treat his family as marks. As the phony relationship begins to feel genuine, Adeola asks Vanessa to dinner. Guest Chris loses her expensive engagement ring at a party meant to secure a major business deal, and Cassandra seizes the opportunity to loudly accuse Vanessa of being a kleptomaniac. When the ring is discovered in Vanessa's handbag, Adeola believes the evidence, so he ends their arrangement and banishes her from his home. Vanessa maintains her innocence, and that night Chris calls and confesses she suspects the ring was planted. As a gesture of trust, Chris offers Vanessa a job and gives her a chance to build an honest life. Vanessa takes the job and starts an honest life, and Adeola, regretful, comes to her house with an apology. He reveals that he has already told everyone at the party the truth and cleared her name, and he asks to start over without lies or games. Vanessa forgives him, and they share a kiss.
