Gerald's mother insists he marry to avert a prophetic death, pushing him into a union with Jennifer, a woman he barely knows. Their marriage is hollow: Gerald forbids her from entering his room and maintains a polite distance, still mourning Blossom, his ex-girlfriend who died in a car accident after their fight. Jennifer, haunted by her own trauma—a rape at seventeen that drove her into sex work—keeps her history hidden. Gerald’s friend Jide visits, revealing the details of Blossom’s death, and a chance encounter at a restaurant shatters their fragile equilibrium: Jennifer points out Shadow, one of her rapists, and Jide attacks him, exposing the truth to Gerald. Gerald apologizes, but Jennifer is devastated, questioning if she can ever compete with a dead woman. They argue, and Gerald confesses his guilt over Blossom’s death. Jide then tells Gerald that Shadow was part of the gang that assaulted Jennifer. Finally, Gerald discards Blossom’s belongings, releasing his grief, and proposes to Jennifer anew—this time for a real marriage. She accepts, and they consummate their relationship. Gerald tells his mother about Jennifer’s past; she accepts it, insisting on deliverance. The film ends with the couple embracing, having confronted their pasts and committed to each other.
