EARLY LIFE

Chinyere Wilfred was born on March 23, 1970, in Aguluezechukwu, a small village in Anambra State, Southeastern Nigeria. She has a twin sister, Chinelo Mojekwu. She completed her primary, secondary, and tertiary education in Lagos State, earning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science from Lagos State Polytechnic. From a young age, Chinyere developed a passion for acting, choosing theatre art as an elective course during her polytechnic days, and actively participating in drama clubs and stage productions.

CAREER

Chinyere Wilfred joined the Nigerian film industry professionally in 1992, making her debut in the movie 'Taboo'. Her role in the blockbuster soap opera 'Ripples' truly propelled her to fame and earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. She is known for her versatility, portraying various characters such as wicked mothers-in-law, sad women, queens, and rich men's wives. She has featured in over 200 Nollywood movies, including 'Nneka the Pretty Serpent' (1994) and 'African Messiah' (2021). Chinyere has also ventured into film production, producing her first movie and a TV series called 'Escape' through her company, Chifred Productions. Additionally, she has pursued a music career, releasing songs like 'Emela', 'My Case is Urgent', 'Daddy Mu Biko', and 'King of Glory'.

PERSONAL LIFE

Chinyere Wilfred married Chris Wilfred in 1993 after a nine-year courtship. They have three sons: Emeka Wilfred, Chijioke Wilfred, and Chukwudi Wilfred, all of whom are involved in Nollywood and have acted alongside her. Her husband has been a constant source of support throughout her career, even accompanying her to movie locations in her early days. In 2003, Chinyere faced a blackmail scandal involving a former friend, Florence Onuma, which exposed nude pictures and led to police involvement; the case was eventually settled. She balances her career and family life, noting that her mother helped her manage when her children were young, and now her grown sons provide support.
