No Signal

Release Date: 15 Jul. 2026Runtime: 2h 28mRating: ⭐ 0.0

In a Lagos kitchen, Mummy brandishes a pestle at a cluster of smartphones, demanding her son David and his wife Juliet abandon their devices for three days to salvage their screen-battered marriage. The forced disconnection at the center of No Signal becomes a pressure cooker when a sudden city lockdown seals them inside their apartment, transforming petty boredom into raw hostility. A dinner with neighbors meant to relieve the tension instead detonates it, as a parlor game exposes David’s profound ignorance of Juliet’s past—including a miscarriage he met with financial relief rather than grief. The ensuing blowup sends Juliet sobbing into the bathroom.

Storyline

When Mummy storms into her son’s kitchen threatening to obliterate a collection of smartphones with a pestle, David and Juliet are forced into a three-day ban from all electronics—an intervention meant to mend their digital divorce. Stripped of screens, the couple stumbles through awkward silences and petty squabbles, their attempts at conversation dying faster than their phone batteries ever did. A government-imposed lockdown traps them in the apartment, and a superficially festive dinner with neighbors Femo and Deshola turns sour when a trivia game reveals David’s ignorance of Juliet’s favorite things, then cracks open the secret she’s been carrying: a past miscarriage that he met with hidden relief. His admission that he saw the loss as a reprieve from financial strain shatters the room, exposing the emotional chasm that No Signal titles have long masked. After the guests flee the hostile air, a volcanic argument erupts—Juliet accuses David of insensitivity, and her pain erupts as he fails to grasp the depth of her grief. She locks herself in the bathroom, while he sits slumped against the door, the weight of his failures finally settling on him. Days of frosty distance follow until a candid conversation with Deshola gives Juliet the courage to voice her buried hurt, and David, in turn, stumbles toward a genuine apology rooted in his own flawed reasoning. Their tearful reconciliation is tested when Mummy returns their devices, but the couple, now aware of the static that once filled their home, chooses a different rhythm. Juliet’s discovery that she is pregnant sparks a celebration, and the same trivia game that once wounded them becomes a ritual of connection, shared with friends and steeped in the hard-won lesson that real intimacy needs no signal.
