Husband To Be

In Husband To Be, at a Lagos restaurant called HizzyFlix, waitress Charity rejects her coworker Rufus's marriage proposal because he is poor, declaring she needs a rich man to escape poverty. Rufus, in a white shirt and red tie, later confronts corrupt manager Dennis for sleeping with waitress Jane and threatening Charity with a sack letter while exonerating Jane. The manager slaps Rufus and accuses him of destabilizing marriages by sleeping with staff, not knowing Rufus is already married. Rufus subsequently leaves the restaurant and the city to pursue success. Five years later, Rufus returns as a wealthy man driving a luxury car. Charity, still working at the restaurant under a new no-nonsense manager, sees him and schemes to win him back, quitting her job when the manager denies her leave to pursue Rufus. She discovers Rufus now has a wife, Joy, a blonde woman who is pregnant and fiercely protective, and a professional project manager who accompanies him on business. Charity harasses both women, attacking the project manager at Rufus's gate and brawling with Joy in a parking lot, each time claiming Rufus as her 'husband-to-be.' Rufus visits Charity at her modest room and coldly confronts her. He tells her he is not the man she rejected and warns her to stay away from his wife, his staff, and his life or face arrest. Charity, stunned, tries to frame her past rejection as a sacrifice that enabled his success, but Rufus dismisses her and leaves. Shortly after, Charity's former manager calls demanding she return to work or be sacked, and she refuses, choosing to chase Rufus's love instead. Alone in her room, Charity watches a video of Rufus's old proposal on her phone and sobs uncontrollably. She laments her foolishness, realizing she has lost both Rufus and her job, and questions whether village forces cursed her destiny. The film ends on her desperate weeping as the screen fades to black.
