Heart Arrest

In Heart Arrest, Ifeoma runs a small sewing shop and endures Tayo, a hot-tempered construction laborer who answers disrespect with his fists and then promises he will never fight again. He brings her body cream and a red dress, yet keeps returning from work bruised, insisting punches can settle what talk cannot. Patrick, a wealthy realtor and contractor building a mall in the neighbourhood, notices Ifeoma, comes to her shop for measurements, orders clothes, and sends expensive gifts. Her friend urges her to give Patrick a chance, but Ifeoma remains loyal. Patrick had hired a local protector to keep street thugs away from Ifeoma, unaware that the man was Tayo. Realizing the arrangement, Tayo convinces Patrick to pay him, eventually three million naira, for the chance to court Ifeoma, and proves his control by calling her so Patrick hears her say she loves him. With the money he buys clothes, phones, and gifts, then withdraws from Ifeoma, ignoring her calls, calling her a distraction and bad luck, and finally breaking up with her. Ifeoma is heartbroken, yet Patrick stays patient and caring, and she gradually falls in love and agrees to be his girlfriend. Tormented by guilt, Patrick confesses, ignoring his sister's and friends' advice to leave the past buried. He tells Ifeoma about the three million naira paid to Tayo and the earlier protection scheme. She reacts with fury, calls herself a commodity and a fruit to be bought, refuses his apologies, and walks out. She confronts Tayo in his bedroom, asking if three million was all she was worth. Tayo admits spending it and says he loves her, but she curses him and leaves him in the wreckage. Later she rejects Patrick again at her shop, and Tayo shows up to claim her and argues with Patrick over who truly loves her. When the anger fades, Patrick tries again with honest promises, and Ifeoma admits she has grown to love him deeply and forgives him.
