Growing Out Loud

In the film "Growing Out Loud", a teenager named Annabel lives under her mother’s strict rules. To keep her away from boys, her mother takes her to a clinic for a virginity check. The doctor says she is fine, but the visit leaves Annabel feeling trapped. Soon after, her best friend Ivy invites her to a party. Despite her fears, Annabel goes out, drinks too much, and sleeps with a boy named Obiora. Weeks later, Annabel misses her period and feels sick. Ivy gives her a pregnancy test that shows a positive result. Panicked and scared of her mother’s reaction, Annabel wants to end the pregnancy. Ivy says the clinic will cost a large sum of money. They visit Obiora, who refuses to take blame but points them to a friend. That friend lends them the cash, warning them to pay it back quickly. Annabel undergoes the procedure, but soon starts bleeding heavily and faints. Ivy calls for help and Annabel is rushed to a hospital. When Annabel wakes up, the doctor shares shocking news. The tests show she was never pregnant. Her heavy bleeding was just a severe period. Later, Ivy visits her and explains the whole plan. She admits she faked the pregnancy and the test results. Ivy did this on purpose to teach Annabel a hard lesson about making rushed choices. Through this painful experience, Annabel finally learns to understand her mother’s fears and decides to make smarter choices moving forward.
