Family Fire

Fred is a successful young man in the movie Family Fire. He brings his girlfriend Zara home to meet his mother Beatrice and sister Grace. Zara feels nervous because she is an orphan from Imo state with no job after her NYSC. Beatrice does not like her and tells Fred to marry someone from a better family. Fred refuses and they get married. But Beatrice starts treating Zara badly. One night when Fred is asleep, she drags Zara out of the bed and forces her to sleep on the hard floor in another room. She warns Zara not to tell Fred. Zara keeps quiet for peace. When Zara gets pregnant the bad treatment gets worse. Beatrice and Grace make Zara do all the house chores like cleaning and cooking while they relax. Beatrice complains about the food and makes her cook everything again. She even demands a foot massage from the pregnant Zara. One evening Zara has to wash a big pile of clothes outside in the dark. She finishes but falls down in terrible pain. Fred rushes her to the hospital but she loses the baby. Six months later Zara is still sad and depressed. Beatrice shows no pity and shouts at her to wake up and make breakfast. Fred gets angry but Beatrice calls Zara a lazy witch who brings bad luck. During a visit from Fred’s friend Jack and wife Jane, Jane reveals that Beatrice used her power to get Zara fired from her job. Fred confronts his mother and sister. Beatrice admits she did it to make Zara leave the marriage. Angry and disgusted, Fred throws Beatrice and Grace out of the house. At the end Beatrice and Grace walk on the street with their bags. Fred apologizes to Zara for not protecting her earlier. They hold each other and prepare to build a peaceful life together.
