Storyline

After being evicted and left with nothing, Chimamanda arrives at her friend Kemi’s apartment and introduces herself as Champagne, the daughter of a wealthy businessman whose accounts are frozen due to an EFCC probe. She describes a fake mansion in Banana Island and a father on vacation with the Obamas, all while borrowing sympathy and a place to sleep. Kemi and her housemate Saraphina offer her shelter, and soon Chimamanda’s fabrications grow to include close ties with Mo Abudu, Davido, and Drake. Before long, she has charmed Saraphina’s cousin Tobe, a wealthy businessman who falls for her stories and proposes marriage. Accepting the ring, Chimamanda continues to lean on Kemi for small loans and drives a car she claims to own—though it belongs to a client of Charlie, a mechanic she knows. Saraphina’s suspicion deepens when the borrowed money goes unpaid and details of Chimamanda’s supposed wealth never materialize. The unraveling begins when Tobe’s vehicle is identified as the same car Charlie had been servicing, and an angry owner shows up at the house alongside Tobe. Caught in the web of lies, Chimamanda watches her engagement dissolve as Tobe walks away, and Saraphina orders her to leave immediately. With no money and no one to turn to, she seeks out Charlie, the man she once looked down on, and he offers her a place to stay on one harsh condition: marriage. Having no alternative, she agrees, and the final scene finds her in Charlie’s embrace, starting a life far from the glittering world she had invented.
