Bold Heart

In the film Bold Heart, Olive, a wealthy woman diagnosed with motor neuron disease, urgently needs to learn French to travel to France and reclaim her daughter Mabel from her estranged husband Ben. Hiring Alex as a tutor for a million naira, she instead receives Eddie, a friend of Alex who lacks any French skills. Attempting to bluff his way through the first lesson, Eddie is quickly exposed as a fraud when Olive catches him in a lie about verb conjugations, leading to his arrest. Saved by his girlfriend Cindy's pleas and Olive's mother Nana's intervention, Eddie is released into Olive's service as a houseboy to repay the debt. Living in Olive's home, he learns of her terminal illness and her desperate search for Mabel. Determined to make amends, he uses his connections to trace Ben, discovering that the man has been hiding in Nigeria all along. Arranging for Ben's arrest, Eddie reunites Mabel with her mother. Overwhelmed with gratitude and love, Olive proposes to Eddie, and they marry in a hospital ceremony with Mabel and Nana present. Shortly after, Olive succumbs to her illness, leaving Eddie a widower. Heartbroken but resolute, Eddie returns the money Olive had paid him and refuses any inheritance. He rejects the wealth not out of pride but out of love, wanting to give Mabel the simple life Olive would have wanted. Despite his loss, he finds purpose in caring for Mabel, who now calls him 'Daddy.' The film ends with Eddie and Mabel sharing a quiet moment, a reminder that love can bloom even from a desperate lie.
