A Hero Comes Along

Steve and Benita argue in the car after a party, Benita accusing him of dancing with another woman. During their heated exchange, Steve accidentally hits a woman crossing the road. Benita urges him to leave, but Steve insists on taking her to the hospital. They bring her to Steve's house, where his friend Ben, a doctor, examines her; she is stable but unconscious. Benita, hostile and jealous, demands the woman be removed, but Steve decides to keep her until she recovers. Benita grows increasingly paranoid as the woman remains in a coma, and Steve begins investigating her identity. He discovers she is Stella Francis, wanted for killing her uncle. Stella eventually confesses that her uncle repeatedly attempted to rape her and she killed him in self-defense. Believing her, Steve hires a lawyer to secure anticipatory bail. Benita, determined to see Stella arrested, calls the police, but Steve's lawyer intercepts them. Steve breaks up with Benita after she threatens to take matters into her own hands. Stella admits to Steve that she faked being in a coma and lost memory to protect herself. Steve forgives her and gets her a job as an office assistant. They grow closer, and Stella begins to trust him. Benita returns, apologizing and claiming she has changed, but when she sees Stella, she attacks her again, revealing her unchanged hostility. Steve firmly rejects Benita, telling her she needs professional help and that their relationship is over. Stella starts her new job and thanks Steve for his kindness. Steve reflects on his sister's similar fate, which motivated him to help Stella. The film ends with Steve and Stella sharing a moment of understanding and hope for the future, while Benita is escorted out of the house, finally leaving them alone.
