A Girl Like You

In A Girl Like You, Shalewa supports her younger sister Abby. She works in an office until her boss tells her the office is closing and moving to the UK. Shalewa is jobless. Her landlady pressures her, and school fees are due. Her friend Emma offers Shalewa a supply of wigs at a discount, so she agrees to sell them. Shalewa starts taking orders. One customer, Chude, buys expensive wigs for his mother and arranges to meet her. He later introduces Shalewa to his sister Samantha, who wants a container-load of hair for her store. Abby takes five of the wigs, and after a panic she confesses to destroying them. The loss puts Shalewa in debt. Shalewa asks Emma to introduce her to Emma's direct supplier because she wants to import hair herself. Emma feels betrayed and demands her money and stock back. Shalewa places a large order with a supplier named Mrs. Onye. Shalewa has borrowed heavily for it, and for three weeks Mrs. Onye is unreachable. She is distressed. Shalewa goes out with Chidi one night, and she finally gets a message that her goods have cleared and will be delivered the next day. She screams with joy. The delivery arrives, and Shalewa is able to open a hair shop and spa. Emma arrives and apologizes to Shalewa for calling the police. The friends reconcile and hug. Chude, who has supported Shalewa throughout, kneels in front of the gathering and asks Shalewa to marry him. She accepts as the crowd cheers.
