EARLY LIFE
Uduak Isong Oguamanam is from Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria. She is married to Chidi Oguamanam, a medical doctor, and her sister is Nollywood director and producer Emem Isong Misodi. Oguamanam studied Communication Arts and Russian languages from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. She has a master's degree in New Media and Society from the University of Leicester and a Diploma in French from Alliance Française de Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria. She lives in Lagos, Nigeria.
CAREER
Oguamanam's first job was as a cabin crew member for two years in the aviation industry, and she also worked in the capital market and telecoms industry. She began writing prose and poetry, later venturing into film. Her early films were produced through Royal Arts Academy, Lagos. She then set up Closer Pictures, Lagos, with Falling (2015) being the first film produced under her own company. In 2010, Oguamanam directed her first film, To Live Again, adapted from her short story. She has attended Berlinale Talent Campus, the UK-Nigeria creative world partnership programme, and workshops at Raindance. Her filmography also includes 'A Weekend Gateway', 'The Crazy Wife', and 'Selina's Wedding (2022)' amongst others.
PERSONAL LIFE
Oguamanam tackles societal issues through her work, with projects like To Live Again addressing HIV stigmatization, Kokomma (2012) tackling female sexual abuse, and Fine Girl (2016) telling the story of a young girl who turns to prostitution to save her dying father. She also advocates on issues affecting Nollywood, advising film producers to 'let other people sing their praise' regarding box office figures.
