To Love A Girl

Chidi manages the home he shares with his sister Cynthia and scolds her for breaking the 8 p.m. curfew their father set. In To Love A Girl, Chidi has no idea Cynthia is secretly seeing Daniel, the family driver, who takes her to school and waits for her by day. Kiana, an orphan with a fashion design diploma, arrives at the island home of Mrs. Alice, a widow who hires her as a live-in maid because Kiana's name and stature remind her of the daughter she lost. Alice settles Kiana in and asks her to cook, and the arrangement starts to feel like more than a job. Days later, Kiana gets lost on a market errand, and Chidi stops to give her a ride. He assumes she is Alice's daughter and pursues her, but she refuses at first. He keeps at it, they go to lunch, and their bond grows over a slow dance and a kiss. Cynthia and Daniel keep meeting in secret, and Chidi stays focused on winning Kiana over. Chidi sees a text from Daniel on Cynthia's phone calling her baby, so he confronts his sister, fires Daniel, and orders him away. Cynthia cries that Daniel is a good man and they have not been intimate, but Chidi will not listen, and he tells Kiana that poor people only care about money. Kiana makes him leave, and when he returns to apologize she says she is Alice's maid, not her daughter, and one of the poor people he condemned. She asks if he has ever gone to bed hungry and shuts the door. The loss forces Chidi to face his prejudice, so he goes to Daniel, apologizes, gives him his job back, and promises him a place at his hotel once Daniel finishes school. Mrs. Alice agrees to help him win Kiana back, and at the birthday celebration Chidi arranges for Cynthia, he invites Daniel and brings Kiana into the circle. The four sit down and eat together, Chidi says he has his girlfriend and his sister's boyfriend back, and the awkwardness fades. In the kitchen, Cynthia asks Kiana not to break her brother's heart, and the two women embrace.
