Kanayo O. Kanayo, born Anayo Modestus Onyekwere on March 1, 1962, in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria, is a veteran Nollywood actor, producer, lawyer, and philanthropist. Raised in Aba, Abia State, he debuted in "Living in Bondage" (1992) and became iconic for portraying ritualists in over 200 films, earning nicknames like "Nnayi Sacrifice." He holds degrees in Philosophy and Law, won AMVCA Lifetime Achievement Award (2022), and co-authored "The Testator" (2021). Married with four children, he's known for family values and youth mentorship

EARLY LIFE

Kanayo O. Kanayo, whose real name is Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, was born on March 1, 1962, in Nru Umueze Oboama Ezinihitte in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He was raised in Aba, Abia State, where he attended St. Joseph Primary School and later Secondary Technical School. He comes from a family that includes his late parents, Donatus Onyekwere and Ezinne Isabella Onyekwere, along with three siblings: two sisters (one named Chinasaokwu) and a late older brother, John Onyekwere. He obtained diplomas in mass communication and law, as well as a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Lagos. He earned a master's degree in political science. In 2018, he obtained a Law degree from the University of Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2020.

PERSONAL LIFE

Kanayo has been married to Nneka Onyekwere since 1999. The couple has four children: a daughter named Oloaku Valerie and three sons Clinton (also known as Onye Eze Mbaise, who works as his father's personal assistant and assistant production manager), Einstein, and Kosisochukwu Montell. Details on his personal interests are not widely documented in the sources.

CAREER

Kanayo began his acting career in 1982 with productions for the Nigerian Television Authority, appearing in series like Things Fall Apart (1987) and Checkmate. He made his film debut in 1992 as Chief Omego in the groundbreaking Nollywood movie Living in Bondage, which helped launch his fame. He has starred in over 100 films, often portraying villainous characters, particularly in occult-themed stories, with notable roles in Blood Money (1997), Across the Niger (2004), Family Battle (2005), Lionheart, Up North, Living in Bondage: Breaking Free. He also featured in the sitcom Professor Johnbull and wrote and co-produced Nneka the Pretty Serpent. Beyond acting, he practices law, owns the production company Simpliciter Associates Productions, authored the book The Testator, and has served as president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. He is also an activist, businessman, UN ambassador, and GLO ambassador.
