Ben Cassie

Ben Cassie is recognized as a rising and highly productive female filmmaker in Nollywood, known for consistent output in the romance and drama space. She maintains an active presence on social media, sharing updates about her work and industry relationships.

EARLY LIFE

Ben Cassie was born Cassandra Chinwendu Chukwuwetalu on 20 October in the mid-1990s. She is a native of Ikem Nando (Nando) in Anambra State, Nigeria, and is of Igbo ethnicity. She was raised in a Christian family; her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Chukwuwetalu, and she has siblings including Stanley Chukwuwetalu (brother) and Lilian Chukwuwetalu (sister). She completed her secondary education at High Hope Academy and St. Joseph’s Girls’ College before proceeding to Ebonyi State University, where she matriculated around 2014 and later completed her NYSC service (2018–2019).

CAREER

Ben Cassie began her Nollywood career behind the camera in the late 2010s, primarily working in the script and continuity department and as a second unit or assistant director on numerous productions (including titles such as Omera, A Bride with the Gun, The Manifesto, Stitches, Saving Rose, and many others around 2019–2022). She transitioned into directing and producing and has become one of the more prolific female directors in contemporary Nollywood, especially in romance and drama genres. Selected directing/producing credits include: Insecure (2022) Guarded Heart (2022) A Place Called Regret (2022) In Her Shoes (2023) – director and producer Idia’s Melody (2023) Saints and Sinners (2023) Treasure in the Sky (2023/2024) Finding Hope (2024) – director and producer Love in Chaos (2024) Me or You (2024) My Crazy Rich Girlfriend (2024) The Story of Us (2025) My Mother’s Daughter (2025) and many additional titles through 2025–2026. She has collaborated with a wide range of Nollywood actors and continues to be active as a director and producer.

PERSONAL LIFE

Ben Cassie is unmarried and has no biological children. She maintains a close professional and personal mentorship relationship with Nollywood producer/director Uchenna Mbunabo, often referring to herself as “Uchenna Mbunabo’s 1st Daughter.” She is also known for a supportive mother–daughter-style relationship with actress Pearl Shim, whom she and Mbunabo helped reintroduce to the industry.
