A Quiet Pain

Rebecca, a single mother, blocks a man beside his car and accuses him of sending her teenage daughter money and calling her to a hotel. His talk of good intentions meets her warning: stay away. In the city, Chidi, heir to Donald's business, buries himself in video games while his father pushes him toward the future; Vanessa, Donald's daughter, watches from a corner, bitter and overlooked. At Crestfield University, Gold, a scholarship student whose mother works as a cleaner, studies to become a lawyer. Chidi meets Gold and her roommate Daisy; Daisy smiles at him, but his eyes keep finding Gold. He pursues Gold with expensive gifts, and she finally agrees to tutor him. The friendship turns to romance while Daisy's jealousy grows. When Gold becomes pregnant, the university withdraws her scholarship and suspends her, citing moral standards. Later, a woman—perhaps Vanessa, the daughter Jackson once banished—wheels him through the house, feeds him, adjusts his blanket, and stays because he is her father.
