The Invisible Guest

In The Invisible Guest, the film opens in a downpour as a man and a girl flee a luxury home, the girl falling and weeping on wet pavement. In the orderly but tense household of Rob, a wealthy businessman haunted by the murder of his parents and wife at the hands of domestic staff, cruelty governs every interaction. Rob berates his chef Peggy for serving food forty-five minutes old, humiliates his pregnant secretary for wearing flats, and threatens his security guards Kenneth and Friday. Peggy, desperate to keep her well-paid job, has secretly smuggled her young daughter Becky into the house after her friend Jane could no longer care for her. She enlists the guards to hide the child in her bedroom. As Becky sneaks through corridors and Rob notices tiny footprints and fleeting shadows, he becomes convinced a supernatural presence torments him, a fear his friend Jack attributes to unresolved trauma. The situation escalates when Rob catches Becky in the hallway, realizes she has lived there for over a month, explodes in rage, and orders the guards to throw her into the torrential rain. Peggy returns from the market to find her daughter collapsed at the gate and hospitalized, and she confronts Rob with furious grief, threatening legal and spiritual retribution. Jack intervenes, revealing that Becky is fighting for her life, and brings a therapist, Dr. Ume Johnson, to the house. In a session intercut with the present, Rob recounts how his family was poisoned by trusted servants, explaining the deep-seated distrust that fuels his tyranny. The doctor urges him to separate his past from his present and choose healing over fear. At a dusty construction site where Peggy and Becky have taken refuge, Rob finds them and offers a raw apology, admitting his actions stem from trauma and that he is now in therapy.
