In The Ghost We Chase, Alex works as a structural engineer in Lagos and measures every potential wife against a three-point checklist. The list demands high education and financial stability and a willingness to split all costs down the middle. His girlfriend Tope ends the relationship because the arrangement feels cold. She also resents how Alex leans on his best friend Cassie for emotional support while insisting they are only friends. When Alex begins seeing Uche, her husband appears at his door with wedding photographs that prove she was never single, and the affair collapses immediately.
