The Colour Of Lies

Benita has no job and stays with her best friend Oge. In The Colour Of Lies, Oge sends her to a housemaid interview because her boyfriend Sam needs the room. At the house, Benita clashes with guard Hassan and with Devon, the woman's rude son, but his mother hires her. Devon catches Benita asleep on the couch and warns her against laziness. She farts while cooking his meal, and he orders her out. Fearing dismissal, Benita claims she is seven weeks pregnant. His mother, hinting the child is his only chance to become a father, makes Devon let her stay. The family offers five million naira for the baby. Benita accepts and tells Devon she will give him the child, though she is not pregnant. Desperate, she confides in Oge, tries to seduce Sam, then drugs Hassan, a father of three, and sleeps with him while he is unconscious. She becomes pregnant, and the family lavishes attention on her. Devon proposes during a private dinner, and she accepts, vowing to keep the father's secret. She gives birth to a boy in the United States and returns with Devon. Hassan mutters that life is unfair. Oge learns Sam joined the scheme and publicly denounces Benita. The confrontation reaches Devon, and he summons Hassan. Hassan admits he is the father but has three sons and will not claim this one. Devon gives him a ten-million-naira check and makes him sign papers promising never to return for the boy. He takes the payment and leaves. Benita breaks down and apologizes for lying and for everything she did to manufacture the pregnancy. She confesses she fell in love with Devon during the hopeless lie. Devon reveals he was married before, but his wife left him because he cannot make any woman pregnant, and he calls the baby a miracle. He begs Benita not to take the boy, and she promises to stay and raise their son together. The couple reconciles, and the film closes with them embracing as a family.
