Storyline
Our Dear Biddy centers on gifted Lagos-based software developer Bidemi 'Biddy' Alao, who carries the burden of his demanding mother and his older brother Junior, whose aimlessness and debt constantly drain the household. At a grocery store, he meets Joanna Esiri, a sharp tech entrepreneur who impresses him with her knowledge. Their connection blossoms into a romantic and professional partnership, with Joanna helping Biddy secure better investors for his app and even suggesting a training program for Junior. However, Junior’s pride leads him to angrily reject the offer, sparking tension, while Biddy’s mother grows increasingly hostile toward Joanna, viewing her as a threat to the family’s dependence on Biddy’s earnings. As Biddy defies his mother’s demands to end the relationship, tragedy strikes when Junior is kidnapped by loan sharks. Desperate, Biddy wants to pay the ransom, but Joanna warns that the crisis might be a scheme to exploit him, causing a bitter breakup. After Junior’s return, Biddy learns a devastating secret: Uncle Roy sexually abused Junior during childhood, and Junior had hidden the trauma to protect him. This revelation shatters Biddy and recontextualizes years of his brother’s erratic behavior, leading Junior to finally seek therapy and take responsibility. Joanna, upon learning of the abuse, apologizes for misjudging Junior and the family’s struggles. She and Biddy reconcile, earning the mother’s acceptance as they unite to support Junior’s recovery. With therapy and newfound openness, the family begins to heal, symbolized by a building under construction—a promise of a stronger foundation ahead.
